Hair designs. Groundbreaking.

 Yesterday I was watching the news, and I found out that a high school teacher grabbed a pair of scissors and cut her students' mohawks because she thought those three 15 year old boys wore an arrogant hairstyle. Most of the guys of that age have similar hairstyles here. These boys walk down the streets as they own the world as the footballers they imitate. They talk about personal style, identity, but those designs on their heads, for instance, are nothing new.

Ieri stavo guardando il telegiornale e ho scoperto che una professoressa di una scuola superiore ha preso un paio di forbici e ha tagliato le creste dei suoi studenti perché pensava che quei tre quindicenni avessero un taglio di capelli spavaldo.
La maggior parte dei ragazzini di quell'età hanno tagli simili qui. Questi ragazzi camminano per strada come se fossero i padroni del mondo come i calciatori che imitano. Parlano di stile personale, di identità, ma quei disegni sulle loro teste, ad esempio, non sono niente di nuovo. 

In 1919 Man Ray took a picture of his friend Marcel Duchamp, one of my favourite and greatest artists ever, for "Tonsure". Here is the meaning: the head is where thought comes from, the five-pointed star means illumination, and, according to mystic gnoseologic theories, knowledge reaches the brain from on high through an intellectual ray of light. Tonsure is a characteristic of people who chose to part with the world to look for knowledge. Although it's ironic, in this picture Duchamp declared his commitment to knowledge research.

Nel 1919 Man Ray scattò una foto del suo amico Marcel Duchamp, uno dei miei artisti preferiti e uno dei più grandi di sempre, per "Tonsure". Ecco il significato: la testa è il posto da cui proviene il pensiero, la stella a cinque punte significa illuminazione e, secondo le teorie gnoseologiche di carattere mistico, la conoscenza raggiunge il cervello dall'alto attraverso un raggio di luce intellettuale. La tonsura è una caratteristica delle persone che hanno scelto di rinunciare al mondo per cercare la conoscenza. Nonostante sia ironico, in questa foto Duchamp dichiarò il suo impegno nella ricerca della conoscenza.Vi piacciono questi tagli di capelli? Che ne pensate dello stile dei calciatori?

Rompers are perfect if you don't feel like getting dressed. In the last couple of years we have been seeing them everywhere, but the first one was created a long time ago.
It was invented in Florence by the Futurist sculptor and painter Ernesto Michahelles, known as Thayaht, in 1918 following the prototype by Carlo Carrà.

Le tute sono perfette se non vi va di vestirvi. Negli ultimi due anni le abbiamo viste dappertutto, ma la prima fu creata molto tempo fa.
Venne inventata a Firenze dallo scultore e pittore futurista Ernesto Michahelles, conosciuto come Thayaht, nel 1918 su prototipo di Carlo Carrà.

The name "tuta" - "romper" in Italian - comes from its T shape. It had four pockets, was button fastening, and worn with a belt. This garment was created for everyday life and work. Indeed it was simple, functional, hygienic, and cheap.

Il nome "tuta" viene dalla sua forma a T. Aveva quattro tasche, si chiudeva con dei bottoni e veniva indossata con una cintura. Questo capo fu creato per la vita quotidiana e per il lavoro. Infatti era semplice, funzionale, igienica ed economica.

Meggings. Groundbreaking.

Maybe meggings can be considered as the most discussed clothing item in men's wardrobe of the year. When I first heard about them, I wasn't as shocked as the people around me. I attend a fashion course at the university and some boys wear them on a daily basis, but, most of all, I knew they weren't anything new.

Forse i meggings possono essere considerati come il capo più discusso del guardaroba maschile dell'anno. Quando ne ho sentito parlare per la prima volta, non ero scioccata quanto le persone intorno a me. Frequento un corso di moda all'università e alcuni ragazzi indossano i meggings tutti i giorni, ma, soprattutto, sapevo che non fossero niente di nuovo.

Men started wearing tight trousers in dark ages. Byzantines wore anaxyrìdes, which were quite tight, brightly-coloured, animal print, and embroidered. This type varied a little bit through the years until XVI century, when men wore tights with under-the-knee trousers on top. We can talk about men trousers as we know them for the first time only in 1830s. They were dark-coloured, looser on the hips, and tighter at the hem.
Did you know it? Do you like meggings? I don't. I don't like skinny pants on men either. You have to be tall and really thin to wear them.

Gli uomini hanno iniziato ad indossare pantaloni stretti nell'Alto Medioevo. I Bizantini indossavano gli anaxyrìdes, che erano abbastanza aderenti, molto colorati, con stampe maculate e decorati. Questo genere è variato un po' durante gli anni fino al XVI secolo, quando gli uomini indossavano delle calze con dei pantaloni sotto il ginocchio. Possiamo parlare dei pantaloni maschili così come li conosciamo per la prima volta solo negli anni Trenta dell'Ottocento. Erano di colori scuri, più morbidi sui fianchi e più stretti all'orlo.
Lo sapevate? Vi piacciono i meggings? A me no. Non mi piacciono neanche i pantaloni skinny sugli uomini. Devi essere alto e molto magro per indossarli.

Trikini. Groundbreaking.

There are many types of  swimsuits on the market, but trikini is the most elegant, and difficult to wear. 
I would have said "the most innovative", but look what I found.
In this picture taken in 1933, the beautiful Joan Crawford wears a swimsuit which reminds of what we call trikini nowdays.

Esistono molti tipi di costumi da bagno sul mercato, ma il trikini è il più elegante e difficile da indossare.
Avrei detto "il più innovativo", ma guardate cos'ho trovato.
In questa foto scattata nel 1933, la bellissima Joan Crawford indossa un costume che ricorda quello che noi chiamiamo trikini al giorno d'oggi.

When and how to wear this swimsuit?
Some say it is the right swimsuit if you need to hide your belly, but I disagree.
Trikini requires amazing abs because its cuts instantly draw attention to your tummy. If you have this problem, opt for the suitable bikini for your body type or for a one piece.
By the way, if you like wearing it as a regular swimsuit, make sure your skin is tan enough, so it won't cause awkward bad tanning signs at the end of the day.
A nice trikini is perfect for cocktails on the beach or by the pool in the evening, especially if worn with a pair of sandals, a long flowy skirt and some jewels.

Quando e come indossare questo costume?
Alcuni dicono che sia il costume giusto se avete bisogno di coprire la pancia, ma non sono d'accordo.
Il trikini richiede degli addominali fantastici perché i suoi tagli focalizzano l'attenzione sulla pancia. Se avete questo problema, optate per il costume indicato per il vostro fisico o per un costume intero.
Comunque, se vi piace indossarlo come un costume normale, accertatevi che la vostra pelle sia abbastanza abbronzata, cosicché non causerà imbarazzanti segni dell'abbronzatura a fine giornata.
Un bel trikini è perfetto per aperitivi sulla spiaggia o in piscina di sera, soprattutto se indossato con un raffinato paio di sandali, una gonna lunga e svolazzante e dei gioielli.

Creepers. Groundbreaking.

You can't even imagine how much creepers bored me. I've seen them anywhere.
Almost everyone that wears them feels alternative and looks at you in an arrogant manner as if you were an idiot wearing a mediocre, mainstream, boring pair of flats. Hilarious.
Anyway, the first time I saw these type of shoes I thought I had already seen them somewhere.
They remind me of the so-called "calcagnini" or "zoccoli" - in Italian -, they could be until 60 cm high and were especially worn by Venetian paramours in the 16th century. These lent women a more seductive walk, but they were so dangerous that they needed support from two people to walk.

Non potete neanche immaginare quanto mi abbiano stancato le creepers. Le ho viste dappertutto.
Quasi tutti quelli che le indossano si sentono alternativi e ti guardano con arroganza come se fossi un idiota che porta un mediocre, ordinario, noioso paio di ballerine. Esilarante.
Comunque, la prima volta che ho visto questo tipo di scarpe ho pensato di averle già viste da qualche parte.
Mi ricordano i cosiddetti "calcagnini" o "zoccoli" (in italiano), potevano essere alti fino a 60 cm e venivano indossati soprattutto dalle cortigiane veneziane nel XVI secolo. Queste scarpe conferivano alle donne una camminata più seducente, ma erano così pericolose che avevano bisogno di essere supportate da due persone per camminare.

Pop art print. Groundbreaking.

As you may have read here, I decided to launch another new label called "Groundbreaking". Many people feel so innovative when wearing new fashionable clothes, probably because they don't know the story behind them. "Everything becomes fashionable again", right?
A few days ago I was surfing a fashion blogger's Facebook fan page. She posted a picture of herself wearing a pop art print dress and she had the "Oh! I feel so original in this dress!" kind of face.

Come avrete letto qui, ho deciso di lanciare un'altra nuova etichetta chiamata "Groundbreaking". Molte persone si sentono così innovative quando indossano dei vestiti nuovi e alla moda, probabilmente perché non ne conoscono la storia. "Tutto torna di moda", vero?
Qualche giorno fa ero sulla pagina fan di Facebook di una fashion blogger. Ha postato una foto in cui indossa un abito con stampa pop e aveva la faccia da "Oh! Mi sento così originale con questo vestito!".
